Recently I was out shopping. I returned to my car, put the shopping in my boot, got in, took things out of my pockets and got comfortable. Just as I fired up the engines I heard a frantic tapping on the window on the front passenger seat door. I see a middle-aged lady banging away at my window. I immediately think 'Oh no what have I done$%:'

Have I hit the car behind me, or perhaps just run her dog over$%:' I scramble to open the window. 'Excuse me perhaps you could give me two dollars to get home$%:' she asks me.I angrily ask her why she couldn't have asked someone on the street and why she needed to bother someone already in his car. Then I pulled out two dollars. Immediately after, it occurred to me that this woman playing a rather cunning trick.

I decided to watch her for a few minutes. As I suspected she continued to knock on car doors just the drivers were about to head off. The next three drivers all gave her money! Experience tells me she wouldn't have been nearly as lucky asking passersby on the street. I doubt she would have got anything from a random four people on the street.

At that point I realized that she understood more about sales than many company managers. She was using a strategy I call 'Reverse psychology shock-closing technique'.The element of surprise can work wonders when trying to close a deal. Sometimes a dose of 'cold water' is just what is needed to knock prospects out of their lethargy.

'Reverse psychology shock closing' isn't for everyone. Most companies don't require such drastic measures to sell. However this strategy may land you that big client you have been chasing for months who hasn't responded to other softer selling methods.
